Is HS1 valid for a cross london connection

Hi all,

Can i use HS1 instead of the tube for a cross London train connection? For example to travel from Billericay to Manchester I would normally go to LST and use the tube to Euston sq. This is the suggested connection shown by national rail



However it also appears valid to use HS1 from Stratford.



Both routes let me get same train out of Euston. I would walk from St Pancras to Euston. It looks like its still quicker to go via LST and tube but it would make a more interesting alternative.

The shortest route is always valid. The shortest route from Billericay to Manchester is surely via HS1 & WCML. So I do not see how it can possibly not be valid. The ticket is routed +Any Permitted so there is nothing barring it from HS1.

Southeastern specifically say that tickets "to or from London which display the 'Any Permitted' route do not entitle you to travel on high speed services" but they don't say anything about tickets routed through London but not 'to or from' London. Can any SE staff confirm the position on these tickets?

Im not SE staff but I've used my +any permitted ticket from Ramsgate to Bedford a few times on HS1 now with no problems

I can concur with that, although in my example it is the use of the Gold Card that is the problem not the use of the ticket.

Your case is difficult, if you are booking online it may be worth trying to get a printout of the journey that specifically shows a HS1 train.

The staff are not sure themselves, On a recent journey using a saver from Market Rasen - Ashford the RPI would have excessed me had I not had the booking confirmation ticket.

This HS1 is turning into a real pain in the backside and making tickets even more complicated then they are now! Why have an any permitted ticket that isn't permitted on HS1 - when you already have tickets that explicitly state not valid on HS1. Why sell a Any permitted ticket with gold card discount when you can't use it on HS1? If you don't want to use HS1 you could go for a cheaper ticket in the first place.
