Is "hellfire" far too overused??

31454+31602 at Bescot is an example of hellfire'ness, seeing it 4 times thrashing and quite loud, I even gave the train a flail
and as David Maxhey would say: "and why not"

I will never forget that

That is shocking, when it was down here on BTM - Weymouth runs the drivers didnt know how to drive a 31 apart from idling out of stations which TBH made 31s look bad!

The pair idled past West Hampstead Thameslink even on a green light. When it had been on yellows.

You should have seen 31128 with load 9 + 47703 out of King's Cross. Never heard a loco thrash so much coming out of Gasworks Tunnel hock:

Whilst I don't disagree with 43007 being a good performer, I would not say it is described as the best PC ever built. That much is said about every new PC that hits the market...:roll::lol

On a serious note, a power car is only as good as two things:

1) The engine in it

2) The driver

Friday's 9S66 was rather rateable. 28 minutes late from Cheltenham and the driver was a good 'un. He knew how to drive a HST properly, I'll give him that. But would I describe it as 'hellfire'? Well, yes, in a word. But would I say 43007 is 'the best PC ever built'? Hell no. As I say, it depends on the driver and the engine mostly. On that basis, I could have 007 tomorrow with a slow driver and it would be an awful experience. On the same basis, I could have 43108 with an excellent driver and I could call it 'hellfire' and describe it as the best power car ever built.:roll:

I do, however, agree that the word is incredibly over-used these days. How a 455 or similar can be called 'hellfire' I just don't know.

HSTs don't wash with me. Good trains yes would prefer one over say a 222 to Nottingham but I won't go too far out of my way to bash one.

That said the only times I use them is when I'm going to Nottingham to see friends! I hate the FGW refurbished coaches so I try to avoid, if at all possible.

Next to nothing worth calling 'hellfire' though these days, especially on the MML. I was gutted to hear about 43081 getting a VP185 very soon, the Valenta in that one was bleeding marvellous.

VP185s have their beasts, such as 044.

Yes, Correct. The GC HST Wasn't working, but 47s were. The HST came into Platform 11, then the driver opened it up and moved along the platform, then swapped cabs where some lady and a man got in, they all sat down and went back north:???:.
