This was posted at 1.57 this morning on the Southern website. I assume it refers to yesterday evening:
  • Southern and Thameslink - disruption today. No trains on routes to / from Brighton
    Hide details
Due to industrial action taking place today, trains to / from Brighton will not run.
    Customer Advice
You should expect additional late notice cancellations throughout the day across the whole Southern and Thameslink networks.
Brighton station is closed, there will be no trains between:
    • Haywards Heath and Brighton, including at Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Preston Park
    • Hove and Brighton
    • Lewes and Brighton, including at Falmer, Moulsecoomb and London Road (Brighton)

Journey Planners are now up to date with the latest train information. Please note, these will remain subject to short notice changes today.
Disruption is expected on other routes too, including:
    • Services through Littlehampton will be busier than usual.
    • Southern services will not be running to / from Portsmouth & Southsea. Trains will start and terminate at Havant.

    Rail Replacement
There has regularly been a shortage of rail replacement buses in recent months, this is affecting a range of train operators across the country. While staff will try to provide alternatives where last trains are cancelled, it may not be possible.
Can you tell me more about the incident?
If you do travel you should expect short notice cancellations, longer journey times and extremely busy trains.
Please note, this is National Industrial Action, so other rail operators will also be significantly impacted.
    Check before you travel:
You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner
    Compensation:
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.

Early on Saturday, "the system" was showing a reduced service of, generally, 2 trains an hour between London Bridge and Brighton - but with the service stopping in the evening. So presumably the station might well have closed at some point in the evening.

The same message is still on display on the Southern website as of 06.37.

Yet the departure boards on the site are showing services.

I can confirm that the last scheduled train from London Victoria to Brighton yesterday (Saturday 29th July) was supposed to be at 20:50 according to Journey Planners the day before.
In reality, nothing ran beyond Three Bridges towards Brighton from about 19:00. So I’m guessing anyone who was aiming to head back on that last train would have been in for a shock if they didn’t check on the day
