There's 2 problems for the Scunthorpe area. First one is intermittant slow speeds (detected yesterday, should be fixed tomorrow evening!), and the other is intermittant connection problems (discovered Tuesday, should be fixed tomorrow night).

RailUK is 1 of the very few sites that I can access. What makes it worse, is that I can't go down the pub for a few because I'm at work all weekend

I find the word "virgin" and the phrase "up the spout" usually signify some other meaning than the one in your new thread

Don't you get BT broadband free, being a company employee? One of my relatives works for Orange and gets a free Iphone with a company tailored bill and free internet at his house.

I'm on Virgin Media and the past few days have been REALLY slow. I was about to contact them, however, today the connection seems faster than ever before...:?

I now use an Ad-blocker to prevent the flash ads from playing, it certainly does speed up the forum!

I have been with Virgin Media since they took over Telewest and NTL, and I have no problems with connection speeds.

However, I did read the small print on my contract which suggested that if you exceed a daily upload figure (a number of Gb which I forget now) you will end up with the dead slow version for the rest of the 24 hour period.

Maybe that is the problem for some people?

You mean Traffic-managed. Download more than 1Gb (I think it is) during peak periods (7-10am and 4-9pm), and they will severely throttle your bandwidth for 24 hours ....

That seems fair enough, but anyone who spends 3 hours or so on the net during the day can pretty soon be at the 1Gb limit without trying.

But with Virgin, does it not depend on what sort of connection you have?

Nearly all moans that I have heard about the speed of their service come from people who have a connection through the phone line, don't think that I have ever heard any similar complaints from those fortunate enough to be in a fibre optic cable area (like me )
