Irish Rail mileage help

Hi all,

Taken long enough for me to make this thread,but I'm after mileage data for the following moves I did last month:

Ballina to Manulla Junction
Manulla Junction to Portarlington
Portalington to Portlaoise
Portlaoise to Cork
Cork to Midleton

Many thanks in advance!Bored tonight and I suddenly remembered I needed the data to make my RailMiles log more complete.Just then need to sort out my Supertram leaps from July,but that just seems dreadfully dull..

Out of print now but if you can get a copy of it Irish Railways Traction and Travel (4th ed. 2004) might be worth obtaining. The 2004 edition has mileage for all IÉ, NIR and Luas lines open at the time.

Quail railway track diagrams 6 Ireland 1995 also gives distance information in miles and chains for Irish railway routes. Very useful for working out the distances on some of the lines I travelled over in my time.

Alexandra Road tramway, Kingscourt, Youghal, Dundalk Barrack Street, Tara Mines, Mullingar to Athlone, Ballinacourty, New Ross, Silvermines.

Sadly won't be getting out the mileage charts for those lines any time again.

Mile by Mile from Peter Watts Publishing also includes distance tables for Ireland. You may still get hold of one of them. I got a copy from the Pathfinder sales stand at a reduced price quite recently.

Portarlington station has been rebuilt with the platform midpoint moved it is 41-44 ex 41-50 An incorrect distance of 41-58 is sometimes quoted for Portarlington. This is the junction for Galway and not the station

"Mile by Mile" has several errors in the Irish section. The most recent edition of the ITG book or Michael Oakley's Irish volume are much more accurate

Mullingar to Athlone someone mentioned, doubt that'll happen any time soon purely because you'd have to head west out of Athlone to reverse at Athlone Midland Junction, bit inconvenient!

In the times we're in (coupled with the questionable performance of the Athenry-Ennis section in terms of passenger loadings) we'll be lucky to see any extensions/reopenings on the Irish heavy rail network again, sadly.

I would say M3 Parkway-Navan would be the most likely, if anything. But not in this climate.

Ah yes, forgot about that. Some of the mileages in that don't quite gel with those given other sources, but as it's an official IÉ document I guess it's gospel.

An interesting document in itself, showing the terms for any potential private Irish rail operator (although so far the RPSI is the only private TOC).
