Irish Freight Routes

Hello,

I am currently in Eire and around the Cork area (for another week or so) and have seen that the Irish Rail website mentions that there are freight flows from the North West down to Waterford.

Does anyone know what routing these trains take or when they may run ? I was kind of hoping they may pass through the Tipperary area !

Thanks in advance, I have found previous threads here with information about the loco hauled passenger trains from Cork which have been very helpful.

The last post on this link gives you the current timings of the freight from Ballina to Waterford. Not sure of the route though.

Routes are:

Timber - Westport - Athlone - Portarlington - Kildare (run around) - Carlow - Lavistown Curve - Waterford - Belview

DFDS - Ballina - Manulla Jn - Athlone - Portarlington - Kildare (run around) - Carlow - Lavistown Curve - Waterford - Belview

IWT - Ballina - Manulla Jn - Athlone - Portarlington - Kildare - Islandbridge Jn - Phoenix Park - Cabra - Drumcondra - North Wall - Alexandra Dock Road

Tara Mines - Navan - Drogheda - Clontarf Road - North Wall - Alexandra Dock Road

There is also a booked weekly wagon transfer from Limerick to Waterford and return. Book for Wednesdays but next one is in for the 30th March

Sorry to be a pain but do you have any idea when the timber trains leave Waterford or what time the wagon transfer might leave on the 30th ?

Timber leaves Waterford at 1130, alternating generally between timber and DFDS.

Wagon transfer is 1000 Limerick - Waterford and 1315 return. Due into Waterford at 1248 having come across the South Tipp line

If you're around on Tuesday there's a 0950 Waterford - Portlaoise materials train

A word of warning about the wagon transfer - it's down for every week but doesn't run every week. Equally can run out of the blue and way out of path (same for PWD movements)
