Don't travel first class very often but was only £1.50 more. Booked via vtec website ipswich 17.58 to Peterborough leg is advertised as having first class but wouldn't let me reserve a seat is this normal for greater Anglia? Can't find much information about Peterborough tempory first class lounge will it likely be open and worth going to find?

Can't remember where exactly the First Class lounge will be, but you'll be arriving on the far side of the station and it'll be near the exit. Depending on how long you have to connect in Peterborough, it probably isn't worth it.

Ipswich to Peterborough is a GA service which use 2 or 3 car 170s. What you'll probably have is a 'counted place' reservation. Which comes up as asterix on the reservation coupon. You will still be required to use the trains it says on those coupons but because GA local trains aren't reservable on Advances (or at all) you don't get a reserved seat.

Have a good journey though!

Although to be honest you won't have any issues getting a 1st class seat on the Ipswich - Peterborough service...

...Unless a 156 decides to pop up!

The only services which GA have reservations on are the 90 hauled sets, everything else is counted place

156s are not at all common on Peterborough services though, so First Class provision should be available. If it isn't I would contact GA and complain and request a refund for the difference between Standard and First Class on that leg of the journey

If VTEC are generous, presumably difference between 1st and Standard for whole journey ie £1.50. Did you have to stand beyond Stowmarket? Bury?

Stand between ipswhich and Peterborough on a greater Anglia part of the train conductor said it was tuff and pot luck if I got a seat in first . Said best bet was to write a letter to virgin east coast even though it was the greater Anglia Anglia that was full

Surely you need to write to GA about this not VTEC. It was the GA service where there were no 1st class seats available.

Local knowledge says otherwise. First class is popular. At least getting on at Ipswich you should be OK, but others that board at Bury St Eds for example sometimes find first is full.

The 17:58 on the 18/2 followed the Ipswich vs Leeds football though. A bit hit and miss in first class on those trains. Sometimes they have been full and on others I have been on my own.
