I find it no point going straight to Apple Store and asks them and I don't bother emailing them and since we have an Apple Expert here, I just post it here.

Alright I am getting my 8GB iPod Touch on 5 Dec for free! (Hopefully I can win the lucky draw than I will get the 16 GB one, again for free. *Fingers Crossed*) Anyway, is it true that I can run apps on it?

Yes you can if you jailbreak it - at least until February when Apple release the official development kit.

In order to jailbreak it, first find out the firmware version that your iPod is running. This can be found in Settings -> General -> About -> Version.

If it is showing 1.1.1 then perfect, just go to jailbreakme.com in Safari and voila, instant jailbreak. If it is showing 1.1.2 then you will need to downgrade to 1.1.1 (see a forum such as Macrumors on how to do that), and jailbreak.

Once jailbroken, an app called Installer will be listed. Initially, install Community Sources and then install BSD subsystem.

Could then end up with something like ...
