Yeah, see, I got it for Christmas last year. Cause we don't really have the money to just buy things straight away, my Mum always gets stuff from catalogues, so she can pay weekly.

If we can't find the statements (they're not saved online, as it doesn't go back far enough) and find out how to get a replacement from them, then we're stuffed.

The iPod upon it's first sync saves the date of first usage to the memory - if you just have the warranty document (and filled in), Apple will just replace it. In fact, Apple are excellent anyway - probably just a straight replacement. If they say no, ramble on about the sale of goods act saying you sold me a product that was not fit for purchase - I expect electronic goods to last more than a year rather than just under 11 months...

Right, see, we just found out that the iPod was bought in September '06, but it wasn't actually used until December. So does that mean the warranty is over now? Or not, cause it wasn't used until December?

We have the paper saying that we bought it from the catalogue, but not to sure what other papers came with it. My mum is digging things out of the cupboard at home.

If we do find them, then I think we'll be getting a replacement from the catalogue, rather than Apple.

Well, it'll be taken to the Apple shop if it doesn't sort itself out. But all I imagine I'll get from them is a "send it to Apple".

If we find the stuff and send it back to the catalogue, then we get a replacement, fully packaged and that, with, I'm assuming, another Apple warranty. Which I'm assuming if you get a new one from Apple, you don't get the waranty renewed? I don't know about this stuff lol

You get a 3 month "damn it's broken, we'll just replace it" warranty I think!

With Apple? Hmm...
See, if this happens again, I'd like it covered, without paying to cover it. That's not me being tight with money, it's just that I don't want to pay cover for something that I'm not breaking.

Swings and roundabouts! As all insurance companies, you pay, you might not claim but then you might. Either way they'll profit out of you but cover doesn't come for free outside warranty :(

Well, it may not be out of warranty. The first sync was in December, so it's still in its first year from that.

Let's just hope it works when I get home. I've left it to sit for a while to see if it'll charge once it's been left.

There's a company somewhere that replace all iPods (I think) on behalf of Apple if they can't fix them, but I can't remember what it's called.

That'd be nice.

Tom, you said that the warranty was from the first sync, but I got the papers out today, and the official Apple warranty is from the "original date of purchase".

I'm getting a wall charger for it today hopefully though, we'll see if that helps. Docking it didn't really do much, but then I don't have the right bottom attachment thing for my 5G.

Got the wall charger. Now the iPod is doing the battery screen, turning off and then loading the battery screen...constantly.

Do this at your own risk

Yes. I'm really scared of trying that one. Apparently the needle on the HDD can get stuck and stuff like that and can mess it up. I guess it can't get much worse.

Okay, I smacked it up abit, but darent do it too hard. Still nothing though.

Has the firmware been updated recently?

I've read on other forums that 'a violent shake for 10 seconds' can solve this problem, again its totally your own risk!

Other options i've seen on forums;

1. Plug ipod in to charge (get the 'very low battery message)
2. Hold MENU and MIDDLE button to reset it (while its 'charging')
3. When the screen goes blank pull the cable out (before the ipod reboots)
and i got a glowing apple then a menu the battery was very low but is charging fine now
4. You probably want to charge it :)

1) Take the iPod apart, and unplug it from the battery. (http://www.podcastingnews.com/2006/0...y-ipod-repair/)
2) Put it back together.
3) Plug it back in.
4) Reset the iPod one time (hold Enter and Menu for 6 sec.)
5) Feel like it didn't work, and go about your business.
6) Be surprised when suddenly iTunes recognizes your iPod, and it starts to charge.

The first and last ones sound dodgey, but i'd give the 2nd one a go!

Firmware has not been updated.

I've tried options 1 and 2. Still nothing.
I've been through about 8 pages of google results for "iPod please wait very low battery"

Lol, got forwarded to their tech support from the 0800 number. I'm assuming that makes it a free call?

15 min wait!

Great music though...

GAH!!! FFS!!!

Battery replacement from Apple = £59. ****off, I'll do it myself.

"Why, if my iPod has only had 11 months of use do I already need a new battery?"

"Ermmm...yes, but your warranty has expired."

FFS!

Booked an appointment with the Apple genius bar for Friday in London. Bastards better fix it!

It's getting worse. Instead of 3 seconds between resets while plugged into the mains, it's now 1 second and the little animated waiting circle below doesn't even move!

Tech support: Apple's Products may be better, but some things never change.

Gizzy that battery is essentially dead - take it to the Apple store and say that under the Sale of Goods act the products were unfit for consumption even if they are beyond the warranty, 15 months for a battery is appalling.
