iPod Help Please!

My iPod is throwing a paddy. Help anyone?

Charged it last night. It was fine. Battery was a bit low when I plugged it in, but it synced some new songs on there and when I came to get it this morning, the "charged" icon was showing. I unplugged it and put it in my pocket ready to go.

Turned it, and the little plug icon was showing in the battery meter, suggesting that the iPod was plugged into a computer, but obviously wasn't. It froze when trying to play songs too. So I gave it a few resets, and it worked. But the battery had gone down to almost 0.

Thinking it may be confused, I reset it one more time, to see if it would fix the battery issue. This time, it doesn't boot. It shows "Please wait, Very low battery". Resets do no good. It turns off and reloads the same screen.

It isn't responding to my computer. I've tried to cables and two different USB 2.0 ports. Nothing.

My iPod is coming upto only 1yr old, and surely shouldn't be doing this **** yet?

I've scouted the internet for help, but nothing seems to be working.

UPDATE: Just left it unplugged for a about 10 minutes and it turned itself off, obviously due to a lack of charge. I plugged it back into the computer and the screen comes back up telling me it has low battery.

The computer doesn't acknowledge the iPod and the iPod doesn't really do anything either. But obviously it's done something if it's turned itself back on...?

Have you tried plugging it into the wall socket rather than the computer and doing a reset?

No, I don't have a mains charger unfortunately.

Hmm that might be what you need, I don't think it'll reset properly if you use the pc for power :?

Well, surely if I would need a mains charger, then Apple would have included one with the package?

Dunno. I'm fairly sure I needed one when mine crashed and the plug was included. Mine is only a 4G one though, maybe things changed with the 5G ones.

Can you get into diagnostic mode (hold down menu and centre button to reset as usual, then when the apple logo appears hold down the rewind and centre buttons) and reset from there?

I can't get it as far as the Apple Logo, so no. I'd have more idea of what to do if I could, but I reset it, and it just puts up the battery screen.

I had this with my Nano once. What the problem was I was overcharging it. If you leave it off for about 24 hours, then charge it up fully then it should work. If it still doesn't work, take it into an apple shop, then they should replace the battery

I've just had a bit of a look on the apple forums and have a couple more suggestions.

Plug it into the computer and when the low power thing comes on hold down select and play to put it into disk mode.

If that doesn't work try resetting it a few times (like 7 or 8) continually. Apparently it doesn't charge while trying to boot or something.

Also, if you're using a USB port on your PC trying plugging it into one on the rear instead before trying the above. The front ones don't always give out as much power.

Failing that, do you know anyone with a mains charger, or can you get it to the Apple shop?

you can get universal mains chargers for about £24.99. Normal chargers range from £15-£30

I've reset it more times than I can count.

I cannot put it into disk mode, because it doesn't get as far as the Apple logo.

I can get it to the Apple shop at Manchester, but don't really want to resort to that...although may have to.

I haven't tried a back USB port before, as I believe my front ones give off enough power, but I will try it.

Front ports are usually slave ones so are some times less powerful than the rear ones, so it's worth trying a rear one.

If it works you owe me a subway, if it doesn't you've probably got yourself a trip to the Apple shop

Well, since my last post, it's been in one of the rear ports. Nothing yet. Just reset it and still nothing.

I'm sticking with my original guess that it needs charging from a mains supply.

Funny that, the cheapest iPod Nano which has 3GB more capacity is cheaper, at £99!

And my brother clix was only £99 (4GB)

All I'm saying is if you want better reliability, DON'T get apple.

IMO the Clix looks a lot like an iPhone rip off.

If you want better reliability, get Apple! Unix based operating system? Works for me! 8)

That works out at roughly £25 per GB. My 20GB iPod cost me around £160 when I bought it a few years ago. That works out at £8, less than a third of the price of the "clit". And the iPod looks better

...Or my iPod Mini! Two years and it's still going strong! Doesn't play my videos though

iPod still isn't working. It isn't charging. So I'm just gonna leave it to sit 'til tomorrow and see if it decides to charge after that.

I believe it's a "known fault" of some sort; and has happened with mine. Take it back with a receipt to your retailer and they should give you a new one, or at least direct you to someone else.

I'm on my 3rd iPod and, whilst they are a bit glitchy, apple/Currys have been very helpful when they break and are usually happy to provide a new one.
