iOS 8 safari woes

I put ios 8 onto may ipad yesterday and it's less than great but I've been persevering. But today the thing I use the most on it, Safari, has been playing up. For example as I type this the page is moving up and down with every letter that's typed, furthermore the page no longer fits the screan with the whole thing being an inch over. Is anyone else having equal issues with iOS 8?

This is why I don't update my Apple products until I hear reports back. The most recent IOS updates have been plagued with issues - I held of on IOS 7 for a few months until things settled down and people seemed generally satisfied.

I rather rashly upgraded my iPhone 4S and iPad2 to iOS8 and regretted it very quickly. Using the iPad was a bit like wading through treacle; everything was slower and like the OP I found Safari frustratingly bad.

I spent the best part of a day reverting both to iOs7 (7.1.2 to be precise), and to be frank, I think I'd rather have spent the time having root canal surgery. But at least I've got a pretty responsive piece of kit again, albeit at the cost of losing some data which was backed up to iCloud but was overwritten by a blank file when I re-installed the app

It sounds like others regret installing iOS8 too then! With both iOS7 & 8 it seems Apple have tried to make the iPad more like iPhones with their layouts. Ios 8 is the biggest example of this with safari being made like it is on the iPhone

My safari is behaving on an iPad mini. If anything, my iPad is more responsive since the update.

I'm using an iPad 2 so it's probabky responding to your newer device?

I didn't think of that. I have the retina mini so it probably is responding better.

Don't install new updates to iOS until a couple weeks after it's been released into the wild, that way apple have time to find the bugs and release fixes.

Good advice but I suspect that much of the problem is simply that older devices are not man enough to run the more bloated iOS8. No amount of updates or bug fixes will cure that to any significant extent.

Weren't the rumours (or maybe a conspiracy theory) recently that Apple slowed down existing devices with updates around the time of new device releases. It was said that it was a cynical way to persuade existing owners that they needed to go out and spend more money with Apple.

I don't think it's deliberate, but certainly as Apple issue updates it does tend to slow things down a lot.

I have read loads of comments from people saying the iPhone 5s lags and is slow and it might be time to upgrade.

Seriously? The flagship phone until a few days ago is slow? No it isn't. If it is, something has gone very badly wrong. Nobody connected on it being slow when it came out and it still isn't given the fact that developers all write code to make apps and games run on even older hardware.

Suffice to say people will suddenly find their iPhone 6 appears slow in a year, which is madness.

The question is why Apple isn't called to task for why it doesn't make sure OS updates are fully tested and optimised so as not to impact older models. Here it IS as if Apple isn't so bothered as people will upgrade, such is the loyalty of many users.

The iPhone 5s chipset isn't much different to the 6.

I think it's an urban myth. My iPhone 4S is still performing fine but I won't be updating to iOS 8 until it's been optimised for older devices. Having said that, a customer of mine has just updated his 4S to iOS 8 and us very pleased with it.
