Invited to assessment for Trainee train driver, ScotRail.

Well after waiting 5 months i have been invited to an assessment for scotrail on the 26th sept very happy and pleased. But im here looking for any help for next week. Where can i obtain more material for the tests ? and would love any feedback from anyone here who has done the assessment ? just anything guys.

I've recently passed the assessments and didn't find them as difficult as i imagined, probably down to doing lots of research though. Practice the online group bourdon test, scotrail do the paper based test but when you practice online it makes the actual assessment very easy (well it did for me). The mech comp is probably the most difficult assessment on the first stage but if you can look at things logically you should be ok.
I answered all of the questions and answered half correctly and got good pass, answer as many as possible because you're not marked down for wrong answers, it's how many you answer correctly that matters.
The glop test is pretty simple, you get enough time to memorise the valid points and then it's 18 multiple choice questions.
The cables and dials is straight forward, it's a different layout from the practice materials but it's the same principle.
Good luck for the assessments and try not to worry about it, it's not as bad as you think.

Well done bet your over the moon Who are you working for now ? Next wed im only asked to do 3 tests for stage 1 - mech test, safety and concentration test and train ability test ! You know where i can study more for the mech test mate ? Is there just 1 interview the structured int. ?

Hi Vernon - good luck with the tests, having just gone thorough all that myself I found the first couple of posts really useful. Use the search facility to search for mechanical tests, someone had recommended a particular book for that part. Also definitely download the group Bourdon test program - that is a big help. The memory test one is not do difficult, just don't try to write everything -just stick to the main points. The last one which is the dial test - you just have to keep calm and work quickly, but accurately, you do not have to finish this test to pass so don't panic if you don't. Then it's on to the interview!!

Thanks guys i have taken all your help on board and applying myself. pulling my hair out with this mech stuff and im wondering is ther calculations involved IE working out balances of forces with the fulcrum ?

Hi Vernon, there is no real calculations as such it's more visual, any numbers tends to be in your head stuff, no need to do working on paper or anything like that.
