Inverness - Glasgow QS

I was a few months ago on the 14.51 Inverness - Glasgow Queen Street and I noticed that it went via Cumbernauld rather than Croy.

Is this the normal routeing of this service?

Also, are there any other INV-GLQ or GLQ-INV services routed this way?

Yes, catches some people out as it passes (as it is only one of two such service to pass these stations)
It goes this route so as to avoid having to wait at Carmuirs for some time, thus not affecting the peak-hour Glasgow QS - Edinburgh services

The other non-stop service is the northbound Euston - Edinburgh - Fort William sleeper

I used to travel the route between Stirling and Glasgow on a daily basis - from time to time the service would route via Cumbernauld, not sure if it was always due to service disruption or for maintaining route knowledge.

It's difficult to tell one way or the other looking at the satellite map, but was there ever a chord from the mainline "Croy" up to the "Cumbernauld" up where they cross each other near Allandale?

From posts on scot-rail, apparently there were earthworks built for a chord that would allow trains to run from Cumbernauld to Falkirk High, but the line was never laid.
