Just wondering if anybody could help me.

I have got my assesment day next Monday. Im pretty well prepared, I just have a couple of questions.

If there is a fatality on the line and you was told to wait at the signal, what would you tell the pasengers over the PA system? Do you mention there has been a fatality or do you say there has been a disturbance on the line or something to that effect.

I have been told to look up Southerns - VISION - MISSION - VALUES.
I have looked everywhere. Has anybody got any idea where I could find them.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

If there was a fatality on the line, I'd tell the customers what I've been trained to tell them. That's what I'd answer in the interview.

Thanks Eazy, did think along them lines but thought it might be a bit of a cop out. What would you actually say now you have had your training. What with mobile phones and Twitter they would probably know before you anyway. Thanks for your response.

Congratulations. You just gave the most cliche, cookie cutter answer. Well done for sounding like every single other applicant.

The current approach is "operating incident" until it's been confirmed and then "due to a person struck by a train" most Tocs and NR avoid using the term fatality anymore, something to do with not making it sound so final and therefore encouraging more people to use the railway to commit suicide.

I've never been trained what to tell them, just informed not to 'insult their intelligence'.
As someone has mentioned with the likes of Twitter or facebook, etc they will find out quickly.
Be honest but professional in your delivery. Keep them updated and don't make false promises. (Ie we should be going in 20mins when you don't actually know that. If you don't have a time, tell them! But do keep them informed) also don't use jargon in your announcements or terminology in your PA to them. With regards in telling them if it's a fatal or not, that's down to the signaller or control telling you. If it's 'struck by a train' then death hasn't been confirmed. Again be factual. Tell them what you know. The only thing I wouldnt tell them is if we were going to drive past the corpse. Obviously. But that's a different rule and scenario ;)
