Interview questions ('weakness')

Hi all.

New to posting on here so be gentle!!

I have been invited to an interview center for southern next month. Been doing a bit of research on the possible questions. Can anyone advise what a good reply to the question 'What weakness' do you have?'

As is the use of lower case throughout, a 'z' in 'realise', "center" rather than 'centre' and punctuation! Good luck, though - you'll need it with Southern!

I would approach it like this:

Think of a genuine weakness you have. Doesn't matter what it is (within reason!) as long as it's true. Then answer by turning it into a positive or an opportunity.

E.g. a weakness might be that you're not very good with people. An answer could be that you see the particular job as being one that suits loners (so you'd be the perfect candidate), or maybe that you would welcome the opportunity to work with others to help you overcome your weakness.

Other people may have other ways of answering!

I think it's good to mention something that you have worked to overcome, so that you can turn a negative into a positive. Crucially, this shouldn't be anything that may cast doubt on your ability to perform the role in question.

I seem to remember using public speaking/presenting as an example of something I struggled with in a previous job. I overcame this to a large extent by forcing myself to present regularly and therefore gained in confidence.

I probably wouldn't mention anything to do with people skills or being a "loner". This may suggest you'd struggle with working as part of a team or delivering customer service which is something TOCs place a lot of emphasis on these days. Probably more emphasis than the job requires in reality, in the case of drivers.
