That’s really annoying, I bought our passes for our trip in October last week.

Didn’t think they had summer sales. Convinced myself that I was safe to buy as Black Friday would be the next one.

Very frustrating.

Great that they have sales though! Will live and learn for next time.

There's a flat 15 Euro exchange fee - so you're likely best off exchanging it for the same type of discounted pass (I know of people who have successfully done this in the past). https://www.interrail.eu/en/interrail-passes/ordering-info/refund-exchange-policy

Does it matter that I already have Eurostar and Nightjet reservations on my pass? I had to put pass numbers in for Eurostar but not Nightjet.

Doesn't matter, your reservations remain valid. Pass numbers are not shown on Eurostar reservations and there's no way to check them.

Are the pass numbers even stored by Eurostar? Or are they just used for verification and then immediately deleted?

I always assumed the latter. In any case, nobody ever crossreferences.

There is always a way via customer service.
More important is what the conditions of your pas say. Have a look at the confirmation mail you received.
On myinterrail.co.uk, they say that exchanges are possible for non-promotional passes:

It says Non-Refundable in the email confirmation under 'Sales Condition'. I bought it by clicking through the British Airways site to gain Avios from it...which in hindsight might've been daft.

I think I'm going to just have to suck this one up. Have tried to contact them this afternoon but they won't pick up as they are exceptionally busy. If I had just waited one more week!

If there's no promotion, then I usually don't buy a pass until 1 or 2 days before I leave, hoping that a promotion will still materialise. Although the operators are making life a bit more difficult nowadays by requiring pass number more and more often when booking a reservation.

Indeed. Eurostar require pass numbers and usually, they’re the reservations you want to get sorted due to the quota.

I mistakenly thought it would be the same with Nightjet which is why I booked last week because the service I wanted suddenly became bookable; was surprised when it didn’t ask for my pass number.

I guess a small consolation is that during the past week, the reservation price for the berth I’ve booked has increased by around 80 euros. And I have got the Eurostar times I want.

In the last Black Friday (25%) sale, my partner and I both bought passes from NR (myinterrail) - my partner's email said "Sales Condition: Non-refundable" and my email said "Sales Condition:Refundable". As it turned out, both were refundable (less 15% + £10 admin fee).

My understanding is that refundability varies with the promotion - the 50%-off promotion passes the year before definitely weren't refundable - but I don't think that refundability varies by retailer.

The 15% plus £10 fee to cancel means seeking a refund a bit pointless then for 20% off a new pass. Like I said, I only went through the National Rail My Interrail site because it was possible to claim Avios on the purchase. Just bad luck that a sale appeared a week later.

Ah well…will still have fun using it in October.

In the meantime, I've just made use of the Eurostar flash sale and the TGV Lyria sale. London to Paris for £67 in Eurostar Plus and Paris to Geneva for 40 Euros first class. That's my Swiss trip sorted thank you!

Depends on route, date and departure time. On the other hand, March is so far in the future that it shouldn't be a problem. In addition, you can book before you buy a pass. If you need a pass (cover) number, the easiest is to generate a pass cover number from an old mobile pass number and use it on raileurope.com.

Depends. Brussels middle of day this time of year outbound about 4-5 days in advance midweek, more like 14 days for weekends. You could build your own database for the period you're interested in.

Last years Black Friday Interrail sale began Nov 16th, 8 days before Black Friday which is 5 days later this year, it was a generous 25% I think but not on the 1 month flexi passes, so I would guess keep any eye from around the 21st

Thanks so much for this tip about generating a pass cover number. I've got a pass that's valid now but out of date when I need to make the next trip, and I'd like to get something out of the sale (this'll be my third pass of the year!). Generating the code worked perfectly and was accepted by RailEurope. That one key reservation is now booked.

I usually use a paper inter-rail ticket which requires a start date upon ordering. I see there are some 25% off offers at present but don't have firm travel dates yet. Is it possible to get a paper ticket without a start date from any suppliers? I couldn't see anywhere on inter-rail.co.uk that asked for a start date.....?
