InterRail on SE High Speed

Hello,

I am posting this on behalf of a friend, who wishes to use their InterRail pass on an early morning service from Gravesend to St Pancras International in order to connect with a Eurostar service to Paris Gare du Nord.

Of course normal trains are covered by the InterRail 'outbound journey' feature, but Southeastern appear to have asked them to state that a supplement is payable before boarding at the following link:

Southeastern (mandatory supplement to travel on High-Speed services out of St. Pancras)

I am wondering if this claim actually has any basis, and in fact if the InterRail pass can be freely used on these trains without a supplement?

Goven that the quote is part of a page that claims that reservations are mandatory on long-distance TOCs (when it should say advisable) I would discount it.
Myinterrail.co.uk gives the historic position - reservations and supplements only on sleepers.

HS1 is a normal route for ticketing purposes.

Interrail tickets are not routed 'not via HS1', are they?

If they are not, it would be unlawful to charge the supplement.

They will do this, and I will report back how it goes.

Worst case scenario is that they are charged for the £8.90 upgrade fee, which we can then try to claim back.
