If I book tickets via a Train Company, can I elect to pick up the tickets at a machine at a station of a different Train Company. Particularly if I book "Saver " flexible tickets for use on X Country trains can I book via SWT (due to a cashback offer), and collect at a FGW station machine?
Also, even if theoretically possible does it work in practice, or are there potential problems? I know you need to use the same card to get the tickets out of the machine.
Thanks.

Yes, you can pick up your tickets at any TOD (Ticket On Demand) Station. It will, however, ask you for confirmation if you pick a station that's not your departure station. (eg, if I were to pick up Glasgow to London tickets in Birmingham, it will ask me to confirm that this is correct).

You can book any ticket on any TOC's booking engine, and pick up anywhere. Again, that's not a problem. I recently picked up East Coast tickets in Blairhill (Scotrail).

It works. Only on Thurssday did I pick up some tickets at Llanelli that I bought through East Coast for use on TPE services!

Thanks to the OP for pointing the cashback out. Just discovered that the Topcashback website I regularly use offers cashback on Trainline website purchases (3.53%) and via SWT (2.62%) too, who don't charge fees. Wish I'd known about this earlier as I'd have accumulated a fair amount from First Class ticket purchases, but will use this method from now on.

I can think of one exception - Southern discounted advance tickets can only be picked up at Southern stations.

That's right.

If your departure station is, say, Havant, which is SWT managed, you cannot get these tickets at Havant.
Not even from the ticket office.

Could be a bit of a shock if collecting tickets just before travel.
