Could someone explain to me what it all means though because it all makes no sense to me.

In a nutshell:

Download speed is the rate at which you can receive information, ie how much data can be transferred to you every second. Higher is better

Upload speed is the rate at which you can send information, ie how much data can be transferred from you every second. Higher is better

Ping time (latency) is the amount of time it takes to send a very small packet of data on a round trip to you and back again. Lower is better and more responsive.

Your results look fine. I suspect a lot of other people are using connections at work to get higher results than residential lines

I don't know about anyone else, but mine is my residential connection. I'm on Virgin cable. I've had it since is was Blueyonder. I started off with 512k (that seems sooo slow now ) and every few years they kept upgrading it, and atm I'm up to 30Mb.

So not as rural as some places, but still is.

Kidderminster is about 12 miles away and Bridgnorth about 7 Miles. Wolves 20.7Miles



Recently been upgraded a few times though

Steam Download rate various been 1.7MB/S to 3.4MB/S + (Although rarely)

It is as expected as we have 2MB on a 10MB bearer, but it is synchronous...hopefully we'll get this upgraded soon though

I think the best I ever saw myself was in uni halls as we used the main uni connection for Internet access so it was pretty quick

I believe we are supposed to be up to 20Mb, so not too bad.

The best I heard was from a friend over the weekend who at work have a 1Gbps link, which switches according to whether upload/download is most required at any given point

There are reports that some ISPs, including Virgin Media, prioritise speedtest traffic above other traffic, so even if there is congestion, your speed test result will look good.
