International signage for level crossings

In Bavaria they have many ungated level crossings. In addition to the red and white XX signs I've also noticed road signs with a picture of an emu train on them, not the universal steam loco profile. Is this common elsewhere? I know there are only generally steam locos on preserved lines but the road sign is more or less universal....or so I thought!

As a result of feedback from the original consultation on improving signage at private level crossing, we have developed a revised set of sign designs. We are now seeking views on the revised designs.

The signs are designed to promote safer use by being visually displayed at private level crossings.

The trouble with the steam loco sign is not that most people do not regognise it, but that it implies that is puffing along at 20mph and if you are in the way it will just stop with a friendly Toot! and a cheery wave from the driver. Most people's knowledge of railways is what they learned from Thomas the Tank Engine stories, and the old sign seems to refer to them.
