As with Britain, there are several European operators which work shift patterns like you would expect from a railway. But are there any railways in the world which actually don't have shift patterns, but rather have people rostered specifically for daytime or nighttime shifts? I imagine if there are that it would be very few and far between, but I don't have a great worldly knowledge when it comes to a certain country's railway. If not, then why are shift patterns adopted or even preferable for a railway of any sort around the world when compared to fixed patterns?
