Intermodal through leicester

I am not sure if this has already been posted, I have done a limited search so sorry if it has.
I was on leicester Station this morning when an Intermodal train came through heading South, I knew it was the from Peterborough direction because the Midland Main Line was closed because of a fatality on the line.

On arrival at Nuneaton some of the spotters confirmed that it had also come through there and the line between Peterborough and Nuneaton was now passed for the larger containers.
The bridge works between Leicester and Hinckley are almost finished and the train has been running for about a week.

How many trains a day will traverse this route and will it be both ways?

Both ways; 2 GBRf each way for starters, 4M02 4M23(?) westbound, 4L02 4L22 eastbound. Started last week.

In ths case, West is South, East is North, if you get what I mean!

Almost. 4L02, 4M02, 4L22, 4M21 all travel that way. 4L23 & 4M23 remain via London.

But the aren't the normal Freightliner 'big' containers that you see at Nuneaton, Rugby, etc are they?

I'm not sure of the specific routes they take as its outside of my area but they do carry the larger 9'6' boxes as its recently been cleared for larger boxes by Network Rail.

I thought they still had to do a few more bridges? Has anyone seen the 9'6 containers go through Leicester?

Maybe some areas still need to be done (I don't know), but the GBRF Hams Hall services travel via Oakham, Leicester and Nuneaton which suggests at least part of the upgrade is complete. Obviously we wouldn't run 9'6 boxes on standard wagons otherwise

On my journey from leicester to nuneaton it appeared that most of the work on the bridges had been completed at ground level, although I cross the railway at Whetstone by road and that bridge still requires a lot of work topside.

I can tell you for a fact that the GBRF services listed in post No3 all operate with 9'6' boxes on standard wagons.

I saw double headed GBRF 66's, Sileby, Leicestershire, last Tuesday I think it was, any idea what working it was? I'm not very good at explaining things but the containers had no 'writing'/ brandings on the side.

Could have been the failed 4M21 service that failed at Oakham. Loco from 4L02 was used to rescue it. Not 100% sure though,

Any ideas when Freightliner are going to start there intermodal services?

Route was cleared on Sunday April 3rd with the last bridge demolition, the first W10 train ran the next day.

Freightliner less keen at present as many of their trains are electrically hauled and they have fewer crews who sign the route. However this will change.

And they've been causing endless problems since! The paths currently are on a near 2-hourly basis throughout the day. Plenty of late running so far with trains running through the rush through Narborough crossing, cue even longer tailbacks but the WCML now has even more spare capacity...

Eventually, will some of these Intermodals be going north along the WCML? There is a new siding now in operation at Nuneaton for these trains and also I think a new chord line has the go ahead.
Narborough crossing may be gridlocked even more, perhaps the signals need fine tuning because from the gates closing to a train coming it seems ages, probably why so many crossing infringements at Narborough.

Perhaps Gus means the Goods Loop which connects the Hinckley and WC lines.... it runs between the WC and Hinckley platforms. There's also a 40 mph connecting crossover a little further south than this which is already in use, it saves us no end of time.

I dont know, the last time I went Nuneaton it looked liked everything was laid although I don't know about the points. The feather on the signal was covered. Any more info appreciated!

Im XC Driver on Stansted Brum route and i can see myself making loads of overtime now with this extra traffic lol

Up Goods Loop is not in use. Plan as I understand it is to bring it into use as part of the North Chord signalling works along with a number of additional routes around the station which were not previously brought into use as part of the West Coast works.

Ely is like Manningtree, when the approach roads onto the crossing get full from waiting vehicles it blocks the roads to the under bridge therefore not allowing anything to move.

Indeed. Often its at a standstill and it blocks the town route to Tesco's.
Elly will be hit financially with trade unless the Southern Bypass is built. Looks like its too late now.
GB..? On my Leicester run this morning i thought that the one of the Road Bridges between Luffenham and Manton look too tight for 9ft6. Clearance must be minimal. Also i had heard that freight has speed restriction from Stamford to Manton? Its just not shown on speed boards. Are 66s good at staying at 75MPH on Intermodals as i heard many dont...
