Interesting workings through Chesterfield

hi. iv'e just finished collage for my summer holidays which has now given me quite a lot of free time on my hands and I was wandering if anyone knows if there is anything interesting heading through chesterfield in the next week or two because I always seem to miss anything if and when it does. thanks

thank you very much dave87016, I have use real-time trains before to find out what kind of a day it will be as to the way of freight running through and do use it quite frequently, but I do get confused as to how people manage to find out when a classic loco (e.g. class 37) is running through and uk mainline steam has a movements page but i cant find anything like that for diesels. i am in fact new to the forum world and this is my very first post so maybe i should work on my wording in the future

Look for a Yahoo Group that covers your area or maybe there is one that caters for certain classes of locos or things such as test trains which often have older types of loco on.

They seem to be constantly surveying the track through Chesterfield, so you should not have to search long to find a test train listed in Realtime Trains. Just look for anything starting and/or ending at Derby RTC.

As a general rule of thumb I would look for 'STP' trains, you can generally work out what they are by the origin and destination.

Well I'll tell you how I do that. I use freightmaster (which is a site offering listings of freight through numerous locations, including chesterfield), the website/forum you have to sign up to (which is £80 per year) but you can buy the books from numerous shops. Also, I use numerous gen groups (such as Railways Unlimited and UK Rail Gen which I have found to be the best for timings for extra workings), whilst other forums and WNXX (which is also a pay site) also come in handy, and charter listing sites as well

However, I find the £80 annual fee tends to scare potential customers off,
so I always have a much cheaper 'introductory offer' (currently £20 for
access through to the end of September) so people can try FMonline
out without committing too much money...

It's a path for the VSOE when it does a tour to Chatsworth House.

£80 per year, maybe 200 members that's £16,000

Presumably someone provides access to industry systems in exchange for payment?

Please be advised that a NR employee in the Yorkshire area received a final written warning last year for selling gen to enthusiasts.

I have no idea whether your offering is front door or back door, but thought the warning may be prudent.

welcome to the forum. You have lots of information from all the other members and I am sure you will soon get the hang of the websites mentioned.

As an additional bonus Chesterfield has a very friendly bunch of spotters who will readily share info that they have if you meet them at the station. With the good weather I and my hyperactive ten year old son can often be found either at the station or on the footbridge at Tapton, look out for us.
