A person has been taken ill on a train at London Road Brighton this evening, blocking the down line. The incident train (if that's the right term for it) has been at the station for over an hour, so either the casualty is very unwell or it is taking a long time for the ambulance to arrive!
Anyway, the interesting-ish thing about this is one of the diversions: 1G71 Brighton to Eastbourne (a 171) was sent up the mainline from Brighton to turn around at either Wivelsfield or Haywards Heath (I'm guessing Wivelsfield). I know there has been a few 171 moves up this route, but I think they have all been ECS to Selhurst Depot, so I would've enjoyed being a passenger on that service tonight!
I'm surprised Southern didn't just cancel it outright at Brighton, seeing as, once it reaches Eastbourne, it's going to be sent to Selhurst Depot anyway...they'd just tell customers that there is another train about half an hour later!
If anyone has got an update as to the passenger's condition at London Road, I'd be interested to know.
