Also worth pointing out that it isn't possible to negotiate for the WC Mk3 set (probably not entirely wise referring to it as the 'Pretendalino')! as the franchise owner isn't yet known. Also a large assumption that if the MK3 set is retained that it will do so with 90s as traction.

We won't be taking bookings until September on this tour (as was stated on the website, before we took down the provisional programme) to allow for this to be cleared up. If Virgin don't retain the set, we would still aim to charter it

The schedule for "The Central Belter" looks a bit suspect, not least because it's scheduled to leave Edinburgh at the same time as 1R65 to Glasgow QS (they'd need the same path as far as Newbridge Jn, unless it goes out the other end and takes the 'Sub') and leave Glasgow QS HL at the same time as 2N61 to Alloa.

Isn't the Edinburgh time there for heading south to North Berwick? Further, they are provsional, very rarely are the real times a 90% plus copy of them.

Yes, I've just noticed the route is provided as well.

There's still a clash at GLQ though.

I take it that they have public liability insurance, and that the owner has registered with HMRC for tax and vat and that the Person in charge of the company is willing to fork out £300+ for his staff to get their PTS cards

One other thing to point out is that InterCity® is a registered trademark (Number 1277000) currently held by the SoS for Transport, and next due for renewal in 2017.

The IPO register shows that licences to use the trademark are held by London Eastern Railway, National Express East Coast, East Midlands Trains and Fragonset.

Cheers,

Barry

Once again, could you please disregard the information from the links posted earlier in the thread (other than the homepage of IR) - a new provisional programme will be uploaded.

Firstly, there is no need for the Stewards to have PTS training - obviously the rest will be dealt with. (out of interest, why wouldn't we go to HMRC or not get insurance?)

Secondly, "InterCity" is a registered trademark, "Intercity Railtours" is not

cant you lot give this a gut a break, there is someone here trying to set something up for enthusiasts and people alike within a very complex industry, and is all you can do is slag him off. i would imagine its like opening a new pie shop, people wont go in at first, but once it is established, they do or they dont, depending on the product. so why dont all you wannabes out there get off these peoples backs, and give them a chance, if it works then fine, if it doesnt then it doesnt. people should be trying to encourage this sort of venture. all the best to you intercity railtours

I think people have been generally quite kind and constructive, given the half baked effort thus far, given some very imminent start up dates. Some obvious questions haven't been asked... Such as whether they have the financing in place?

These questions are important when they seem almost ready to take money from the public.

I think most people are just concerned about parting with their money to a railtour operator who are brand new and have yet to prove themselves. I can't blame people for being like that tbh. Plus, it's a tough world is railtour operating. I have friends in the 'industry' (if you want to call it that!) and this sort of reaction/questioning/criticism is to be expected really.

I hope Intercity Railtours prove everyone wrong. But at the moment, with clashing dates/paths/stock providers whatever they are just gonna get laughed at! Sorry to sound so critical but that is the real world! ;)

As I say, I really hope Intercity Railtours prove all their critics wrong. I wish them luck.

Cheers for the support, no one said it would be easy!

We understand the criticism, but I'm unaware of a clash in paths or stock providers (bear in mind, as I have said a number of times, it was only a provisional programme "announced" before we were ready).

Also, we are not asking for money at the moment. Neither have we asked for money at any point. We will only ask for money when we are satisfied that everything is ok, and that the train will run.

Fair play to you. When I said 'clashing paths' etc, i'm only going off what I've heard, rumour mill or not - it was said ;) I agree that listening to idle gossip is not good but you have to at least take note of it.

Scotsman,

If you need help with a killer site - let me know and we can see what we can do. Will you be doing stuff with steam trains at any point?

The rumour mill is wild, and we just gave them a year's worth of ammo ;)

But seriously, we've got some plans and we'll announce them when we're ready - the "programme" put up as a sort of demo will come down soon, if it's not down already.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the offer, but we already have someone working on it for us. As for steam trains...let's just see what happens with the diesel ones first!

If people want to talk about us at such an early stage, excellent.

If people are going to talk about us and get the wrong impression, it makes sense to go in and defend ourselves - it shows we're a fair bit more in touch than some promoters, and it also shows that we are serious about this.

I would be interested in the tour with DRS 20s & 37 from Edinburgh. If the 20s are coming off Kingmoor, why not start the tour at Carlisle or have this as an add on fare?

Well, as I've said already, the website was purely speculative and was not meant "for public consumption"

We would love to run a tour with 20s and a 37, and we are investigating the possibilities of it right now. Even if it goes ahead, it would be dependent on the rolling stock provider as to whether we would go from Carlisle. Bare in mind that our Stewarding team would all be Scottish based too, adding another little logistical issue to it. We'll think about it though, cheers.

Looks like the website has disappeared. Also worth pointing out that they were advertising a railtour to Whitby, using paths that are already taken by the NYMR.

Schoolboy fantasy exercise?

In two words: Absolutely not!

Schoolboy fantasy exercise?

As I have said already, we were merely speculating on the website - a "demo" which had been produced by Allan, it was never intended to be seen by the public as this was never intended to be our official website, however when we were "discovered" it very quickly had to become our official website for the time being.

The website is currently being rebuilt by a web designer in Hertfordshire, annoyingly, his own host's data centre suffered a fire last week and he is working hard to restore his existing sites before working on our's.

We anticipate that we will be able to reveal a programme for 2012 tours within the coming weeks, and I will post links to this here, on other forums, and to prospective customers via our mailing list.

If you would like to be added to the mailing list, send a blank email with "mailing list" in the subject bar to intercity-railtours@hotmail.co.uk

If you have any more queries, feel free to post them here, or send us an email.

Hi folks, we've not gone away. We've actually been rather busy behind the scenes - since we weren't ready to launch when we were, ahem, "discovered", we've got a lot to do before the first train can run.

I did promise a new website soon, which we've seen the foundations of (privately, of course) but our developer has had a number of personal issues which I won't be detailing here. However, I will be meeting with him this week to see how everything is going.

The mailing list is still active (remember, if you want added, just send a blank email to intercity-railtours@hotmail.co.uk) but lacks some content to send out - as it may well do for a wee bit yet!

Above, you say that you will not ask for any money, until you can guarantee that a train will run. However, do you honestly think that NR, hire companies or train operators will deal with you, without seeing cash up front first?

You may well find yourselves in a bit of a "Catch 22"!

To be fair to ICR, this shouldn't be a problem, as one would assume that (as with most new businesses) they would have some sort of finance available to fund the start up and initial outlay, such as a private investor, bank loan or overdraft facility.
