But I digress. Basically, the only way the two could be comparable is if you filled your car's boot with lead, which will weigh your car down. Bear in mind that's just with the powercars.
Once the speed is high enough that the v-squared component of kinetic energy dominates, the power to weight ratio is almost everything, if the power can actually be delivered (it can't be delivered past a certain speed in the case of the car). The acceleration is strictly limited by the rate of energy gain divided by the mass (i.e. the power to weight ratio). The Civic simply isn't geared to deliver its peak power at speeds above 100 mph.
Well I did say a small family car with an engine output of roughly 80 bhp. Your car has 140 bhp - hardly the same.

There is no way a 125 would ever gain or pass an M5, the M5 is a 200+mph car and believe me accelerates hard right up to that speed.

I have a fiesta diesel. It is not fast by any stretch of the imagination however in acceleration terms 50-90 it would leave most stock for dust including a javelin. The main reason being far superior

Attach the M5 to some rails and add the necessary weight on the back to it to keep the ratio the same as the HST. THEN, the hst will do a better job.

As for sprinter vans, i had a remapped 316 once. That happened when you pressed the go pedal.

Even equipping the M5 with a trailer and pushing the combined weight up to the 8.25 tonnes allowed with an old B+E license (giving approx 60 bhp per tonne). it would still have a pretty good chance of beating a IC125 set in theoretical 050 and 5090 races (and braking the 8.25 tonne combo from 90 would likely be entertaining even with fancy M-car brakes, assuming you actually made it to 90 without the trailer introducing you to the landscape).
Which points more to the fact that the OP drives neither.

Is it the 1.4 with 70 bhp ? The quoted top speed of this vehicle is 100 mph.

Re HSTs, what is all this talk of boost/full boost? Is this referring to the turbos or is this some other thing like some magic James Bond type button which you only press when things get desperate?
Yes referring to the turbo boost pressure and the HST certainly has that sudden boost pressure to surge forward.

I've been doing footplate for over 20 years I was driving the high speed intercity 125 trains back in the British rail days.

Estimated journey times will be 90 minutes for the new 'faster't trains. This is slower than the HST timetables many years ago.
Why is this?
If I remember correctly the hst did it in 41 minutes from Paddington to Swindon.
There was a regular service that did it easily in 45 minutes. I'll need to dig out my old timetables to get the precise timings
On has to ask. Why are the new faster trains unable to match the timings of diesel trains running 30 years ago?
