Intention to prosecute.

Hi everyone,

I have received an intention to prosecute letter regarding an incident on the 4th of February 2025. I was travelling from Gravesend to Greenwich using a 16-25 railcard. A ticket inspector checked my paper ticket and then asked to see my railcard, I was unable to show her my railcard due to poor signal so she gave me a ‘warning’ with a link to send off a copy of my railcard. I send in the copy of my railcard 16 minutes after the ‘warning’ was issued and have email confirmation of this.

However today I have received a letter in the post stating that the case will go to court however I can send a reply to the letter and tell them what happened. I’m only 19 and this is my first offence. I have drafted what I intend to send to the GTR but wondered if anyone has had any experience with this as I’m looking to settle and avoid court!

I think they probably just didn't associate the submission you made with your file, probably because you sent it so quickly. I don't see a need to send a lengthy submission, merely a further copy of the Railcard, a copy of the email proof that you submitted it in time, and a request for confirmation that the matter is resolved.

I think they've just not reconciled your submission on 4 February with your reference number. I wouldn't worry too much but do use the link in the posted letter from GTR to do the upload again. The reason why they would perhaps not accept the previous submission would be if you bought a new railcard in those 16 minutes but that presumably is not the case here. I don't think you need to send in anything more at this stage.

Otherwise you have very good handwriting!

I agree with the posters above, just send in a copy of your railcard.
