Hi,

I was recently on train from Birmingham New Street to Bourneville.

I had a ticket to five ways and got stopped by an inspector who took my details and said he was referring this on as he believed it was an intention to avoid a short fare.

He said I could be prosecuted and that they will send out a letter.

I was doing this to be honest and felt very stupid afterwards as it really isn't worth it. I've done this in total about 20 times in the last two months but I also tickets to Bourneville on my history as well. These tickets mixed from advance to open day returns.

I was just wondering what people thought and if they had any advice on how to respond.

Any advice would be appreciated

You need to wait for a letter, and that will state whether they have investigated and spotted the previous occasions.

I presume this was WMR? It would be usual for an out of court settlement to be offered, provided you engage with them in a co-operative and apologetic manner when written to (I presume they have the correct address for you?) Any settlement offer, which is not negotiable, will usually consist of the full fare for the journey undertaken, at the Anytime Single rate for each individual journey, with no offset for any fare paid. In addition there will be an admin fee, typically around £150.

Thanks was it was WMR.

Ok I will wait for the letter and see! Yes I gave them my correct details. He said I should contact them if I don't hear back in a month but I wasn't given any contact details? How would I go about doing that?

Thank you so much

I’d probably leave it a bit longer than a month tbh. Others may be able to help with an email address if it comes to that.
