The only thing I would say (and it is now too late) would be to send it 'Signed for". Alternatively, is there an email address you can also send it to, referring to it as a copy of a document you have posted?
Wait did I do it wrong?? What will happen? Will they not receive it? There's no email address on the letter.

There's nothing to say they wont get it... But if you had sent it recorded, you would be able to see if and when it arrived. We had this a lot when I worked at the DVLA, letters often do go missing. But, it doesnt mean it wont arrive.

Sorry - did not mean to alarm you. It was more 'belt and braces' to make sure they received it.

Oh okay, thanks. What do you think the probability of an out of court settlement is? Given my context and the fact that this is GTR and is a bylaw offence (someone explained above). And how much would it be?

An "out of court settlement" isn't automatically guaranteed to be offered to you, but if you are, you can possibly expect to pay a low three figure sum towards the train company's investigation and admin costs, plus the full, undiscounted anytime single fare(s) for each and every occasion for which it's identified/alleged that you didn't have a valid ticket.

Are you happy to share how much the settlement figure was?

Or at least confirm (or not) that Mcr Warrior was right about the likely amount in post #35? Anyway, thanks for coming back to us.
