f) bus drivers will look at you in a puzzled fashion and then eventually grudgingly say "is that a plusbus, I've heard of them", and for you to give up explaining that they're not and just reply "yes"
...

That's the bit that makes them sound like a struggle, well that and actually managing to buy one!

Try the great western website, it offer some fares if you just type in bus in the destination bar. Most of these are in the south west though.

Tried GWR and SWT, as you mentioned a few pop up, but not many, and not the one I want (which is in the South West)!

Its not a huge problem (the tickets are quite clear), its just that you need to be reasonably confident about showing the bus driver what they perceive to be a train ticket! Perhaps it my be useful to have a Plusbus leaflet on you just in case (and I know I'm undermining my own argument from before, about trying to explain that they aren't PlusBus - at least it means they accept them)

Do either of you have particular favourites - unusually scenic/useful/different from other options/cheap or for other reasons?

Today, my favourite is the Bristol Air Bus ticket. I'm staying by the airport, but out in the town tonight so a useful ticket to have.

Good shout, staying out of town too. Think the hotel made a mistake with their pricing - everyone is charging £200 upwards thanks to the Champions League final in Cardiff, including the one I'm using but they've somehow allowed rooms on sale for an insanely low amount of points. Not going to argue with them!

Has BUCKNGHAM BUS MK , NLC J511 been removed from the database at the last fares round? I can't get BR fares to show it and it isn't in the list of origins or destinations. Apologies if I'm being thick and/or blind here.

Can't find any tickets to that location.
