There has been a European insulator show for the last three years that is hosted in a different country each time. 2008 was France, 2009 was the UK in Kent, 2010 was in Germany. It was decided in the future to have the show every two years meaning there would not be a show next year. Because of this I am planning on hosting a UK based insulator show in the summer of 2011. At the moment I'm asking collectors if they are interested in attending and if so, an idea as to when would be most convenient. To enable the greatest number of UK based collectors to attend it would be appropriate for the venue to be in the centre of the country. I have the area between Birmingham and Manchester in mind. The show will be held on a Saturday between June and August. There is a large insulator show taking place in America on 8-10th July therefore our show can't be held within two weeks either side of this due to time and travel issues for collectors who wish to attend both shows. The show must therefore be held on 25th June or earlier or 23rd July or later.
If you have never attended an insulator show there are two reasons to bring insulators - those you want to display and those to trade or give away. Generally the higher end pieces are put on display allowing other collectors to see quantities of amazing insulators. Last year in Kent we had displays featuring several Langdons, Cones, Varleys etc, not to mention the huge number of red and purple insulators collectors brought. In addition to the display pieces you will also want to bring in your common types such as Cordeaux and Potheads where they can be traded to different types.
I am currently contacting collectors for their opinions on the planned show. If you know any other collectors who may be interested please contact them. The amount of feedback I get will determine if a show is viable.
