Nope, just pointing out the flaws in your argument. It's called debate.

If the person that stabbed the inspector is let out sooner rather than later and does commit more offences, could it affect you or me then perhaps? All I said is that when they're locked up, they're definitely not a problem to us.

And as I said that simply isn't true. It is true that if they are locked up then they will have little chance of affecting you or me personally (in the same way the original crime didn't affect you or me personally) they still have the same ability to affect society in general, and wider groups of people. Look at the number of attacks that happen on other prisoners and prison staff. Look at the number of prison disturbances and riots. Look at the number of people who go into prison a minor criminal and spend 6 months amongst hardened criminals. To dismiss anyone as locked up as not affecting anyone anymore seems quite naive to me.

They can do what they like when in prison. If they're locked up, they can't affect me, you or anyone else that isn't near them (such as prison staff or other prisoners).

I didn't think I needed to add a disclaimer to my post, which was quite obvious and I even tried to clarify. I think you're being overly pedantic now.

John I don't think the best option is to always send young people to prison. Particularly if they don't have a history of repeat offending. They might come out worse than when they went in!

I'd agree with that. We're only shooting ourselves in the foot if we put minor criminals in with hardened criminals. It'll just become like a school!

I agree. They can be rehabilitated and remain productive members of society, instead of rotting away in prison.

Agree - the whole concept of certain people in "society" that they are immune for paying a local train fare and then attacking a member of a train operating company for doing their job (and not a nice job either in certain areas) - why should they (a) get away for free (b) attack a member of staff.

Left alone to reign in their own world , what is their attitude to other people.?

PS Have done revenue collection on trains in North London , - and the look of relief one got from decent passengers that you got was quite rewarding - even on the 2327 Euston - Watford on a Friday evening.
