Inside Toby

Don't know where else to post this.

I've built a toy Toby tram engine for my Thomas obsessed child. Its 1:24 scale to fit playmobil figures , and being built on a whim, its dimensions are approximate. Its big enough though to have internal detail so I've left the roof openable to be played with inside.

Question being, what's inside? The usual steam engine Gubbins, water tank, boiler , firebox, coal store? But how is it configured? I have no idea where to begin. Any pictures online of these things?

Not looking for super accuracy, its card and lolly pop sticks mostly, and I had initially set aside a fruit shoot bottle for the boiler, but I'd like it to be approximately prototypical.

I have found various images online of similar tram engines, but have found nothing about the inside. Any pointers, images, or descriptions greatly appreciated.

I don't remember any internals in the original books, so if it looks like Toby externally then it is Toby! If it is self-propelled in some way then it will be even better (especially if there is something representing a coach of about the right colour.)

For a child a toy is what he or she (the owner) thinks it is, not what a purist or modeller adult feels it should have looked like. Imagination and make-believe are vital parts of play.

Thank you. That frame without the body is exactly what I needed to see. In my imagination the interior was more akin to a guards van with a table and a stove, but I knew that couldn't be correct. This is something I can build with a tissue tube and a few bendy straws.

Its not self powered unfortunately, but I'm looking at options for track. You're right about imagination and play, and building it together was as much a driver as having something to play with, but at this scale, there is a lot of empty space inside, and rather than leave it empty, I wanted to finish it off with something to add play value, while also being real-ish. He's almost five, a bit ASD, and wants to know how everything works, so its good for him.

How about making it go [together] then? A battery and an electric motor of some sort, a couple of pulleys with a driving band and it's alive... more fun for both of you!
