Hi Folks,
I'm really hopng that you may be able to help me. My wifes late father was a train driver for 49years and had train number 313109 named after him on his retirement. He was based at Watford juction. i'm trying to get as much info on this train as I can for my wife. Does any one know what happened to this train as I believe it has been sold on and de named. We would like to obtain the name plate if at all possible and to see the train in action if it's still in service. I contacted Silverlink but they told me that they did not keep the train and have no idea as to what happened to it.
Any info you guys and girls can provide would be most gartefully recieved

Kind regards

Ashley

I believe it's now operating with Southern on Coastal services around Brighton it will also have been renumbered into 313/2 range but I don't know if they simply changed the 1 to a 2 (so if it's new number is simply 313209) or if got an entirely new number at the time of the change.

In terms of the nameplate the best I can think of would be to contact Southern (operator of the unit), Railcare Wolverton (where it was repainted) or Wabtec Doncaster (where it was overhauled) as those are the three people that might have information on what happened to the nameplate.

I believe 3109 was re-numbered by Southern to 3209... however there is no name plate on this unit.
I would go down the channels mentioned above as they may know.

Hi Ashley.

313109 was named 'Arnold Leah' at Watford Junction on 04/08/00 and the plates were carried by carriage 71221.

The nameplates were removed by London Overground at Willesden Depot around October 2009 when it was overhauled prior to transfer to Southern. As already mentioned, the unit remains in service with Southern as 313209, operating around Brighton on the Coastway routes.

IIRC, it did run briefly in service with LO without the plates, so my advice would be to contact London Overground first. I doubt Wabtec Doncaster, Railcare Wolverton or Southern will know anything about it because the plates were removed prior to transfer.

313116 was another Silverlink unit named for a retiring driver, but this was titled 'Nikola Tesla' at the suggestion of driver Percy Drummond. These plates were obtained by LO once they were themselves removed in December 2008.

Good luck with getting the plates!

Ah yes if they were removed by LO then they would be the first port of call rather than the other places I suggested.
