Indian train travels 980km in wrong direction

A slight diversion! More interesting is comparing the news items in the Daily Mail and The Times of India

which includes comments such as

"Experts were amazed the service did not crash as it went for 600 miles on the completely wrong track." and "Embarrassed staff, some of whom were apparently asleep on that leg of the journey"

The Times of India refers to passengers being asleep not staff and only quotes a passenger saying it was lucky they did not hit another train. uninformed passengers obviously become experts in the Daily Mail!

Also interestingly do Indian railways not require train drivers to have appropriate route knowledge?

As usual, the Daily Mail version is a load of b*******s. Once diverted onto the wrong route it would be no more likely to crash than any other train. Even though travelling on the wrong line it would have observed signals etc. The Daily Mail turns this into an implication that the train travelled 980km on the equivalent of the wrong carriageway of a motorway
