I understand that the older, large independent NR snowploughs (based on Cl40 bogies or tender frames) are ballasted inside to help them push through drifts, and some of the bielhack ploughs do seem to have a box on top that I assume is to add some weight too, but browsing through an old thread brought me to this photo.
This kind of plough doesn't look to be much more than a modern wagon frame with minature ploughs fitted. If that's the case, surely the lightweight nature of it would make it less useful than a locomotive fitted with MSPs as it would be more easily derailed by a drift. Is there actually some serious weight in there or is that just what it looks like - MSPs that can be pushed around by any loco that doesn't have them fitted?
Cheers!
