Increasing 165/0 speeds - possible?

What upgrades would be needed to hypothetically upgrade the 165/0s to a max speed of 90mph? I imagine new bogies and engines and other things. AFAIK they’re not that different to the /1s, so I can’t see any reason why it’s wouldn’t be possible or beneficial.

It can be done. They’d need the yaw dampeners fitted but the brackets are already there.

I’m not sure if it’s related to tripcock being fitted or just NSE cheaping out, the Chiltern mainline was max 75mph when they were ordered.

165/1s are regeared and fitted with bogie yaw dampers, this in theory could be done to 165/0s but given that there are many lines that would benefit from Networkers yet has line speeds of 75 or below it is likely not worth it.

I’m doing a fictional yet realistic chiltern timetable improvement project thing and having them be able to run at 90mph would be massively beneficial, even if it wasn’t the whole fleet.

There’s definitely some parts of the Amersham - Aylesbury line which could have their line speeds increased

To me, this would have been a good idea to do 10 or 20 years ago. However given the 165/0’s are ageing now, it would be better to procure 90 or 100 mph capable new stock now.

Wouldn't regearing impact their acceleration though, which might be an issue on the track shared with the Metropolitan Line?

That can be said about a lot of lines. Based on what I have read about Amersham - Aylesbury line meaningful increases to its line speed would involve major track reengineering and the tripcock system (Reportedly it is unsuited for speeds much higher than 60 mph) being replaced.

I'm sure I've read that the tripcock equipment for running on the LU tracks lives where the yaw dampers would go and the 2 systems are effectively incompatible as a result.
