No. Kings Cross-Kings Lynn half hourly is on hold as the junction upgrade is on hold. I've not seen any talk on an intermediate solution of extending the Cambridge terminator to Ely.

Which is a wee bit of a shame.

Would be really strong for the local economy, one assumes, for the "Semi Fast" (Finsbury, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Royston, Cambridge) to extend to Science Park and Ely when the work is finished on Science Park.

According to news items reported by the Fen Line Users Association, each time anyone opens their mouth the cost of sorting out the level crossings north of Ely keeps escalating (the local MP has now stated that all the necessary upgrade works are now costed at north of £100M). Some say, including someone I spoke to who works on that stretch, that this is a way of kicking the proposed upgrade into extremely long grass.

To summarise more succinctly, he told me ithe upgrade was was never going to happen and that Lynn would have to be happy with the current hourly service. Which, in my opinion, would make an upgrade to the KGX - Ely service unlikely.

Interestingly, the sky-high costs now being quoted have created kickback from some West Norfolk residents, who would prefer that such a large sum is invested in road improvements instead.

What are the issues and current thinking surrounding Ely North Junction please???

Is it for example, a lack of money, land take/ground conditions etc, Network Rail not yet fully decided what layout or how to get rid of the 3 Queen Adelaide and Kiln Lane AHBCs???

Or are we going to see a return to the pre1980's layout but with a road bridge vice the level crossings or is something bigger/smaller planned???

Cheers!!!
