I’m sure this is an oversight, but then again this is CrossCountry we’re talking about. The Coronavirus section on XC’s website states:

My previous train was delayed so I couldn’t catch the one I was reserved on+
....

If you were delayed and had an Advance ticket on a specific train, you will need to buy a new ticket and reserve a seat. Please see our Delay Repay information to determine if you are entitled to compensation for your delay.

Shocking advice from XC here. There is, of course, no requirement to purchase a new ticket if a previous delayed train causes you to miss your booked train (assuming minimum connection times are adhered to etc)

I wonder who the hell proof reads this stuff...

Do they get it correct anywhere else on their website?

I’ve no idea but this so fundamentally wrong that it should never make it to a public facing website.

Having said that the guard on the CrossCountry train I travelled on this morning made an announcement saying that ‘reservations are compulsory’.....

Why do people like to make up their own rules?

Bit the link from the banner at the top of their website takes you to a page that says that seat reservations are ‘strongly advised’....

Ticket arrangements
If you are making a journey with us we strongly advise that you book a seat on the train, as availability is limited due to social distancing. If you don’t book a seat, you may not be able to travel on your preferred service. You can book your seat when you book online with us or when you buy your train ticket.

It’s not the only error though. We’ve pointed out three in this short thread. I wonder what we’d come up with if we did a proper job of proof reading everything on their website.

I do hope nobody is surprised by this sort of behaviour. With nobody to stop them doing what they want, why not try your luck.

Most people will believe what they read on the website and either pay more than they need to when disruption occurs or simply find another way to make their journey.

Looks like whoever was paid to make the website pages, worked from assumptions rather than being given the correct information to begin with.
Very poor looking on XCs part, I do hope someone knows how to report and get it corrected!

Sad to think people are actually paid real money to compose and publish this stuff.....
