Harling Road is just to the east of this incident according to Google.

A train carrying 135 people has been involved in a collision with a tractor in rural Norfolk today.

The driver of the tractor suffered serious injuries in the collision, according to emergency services, and the train was damaged but remained on the tracks following the crash.

Six people are believed to have been injured as a result of the incident in Roudham, Norfolk.

Emergency services are currently at the scene of the incident as an investigation gets underway to find out how the crash happened.

Several fire engines were seen heading to the scene along with dozens of police officers who have closed roads around the site of the crash in Hall Road.

That is quite some impact - enough to warp the frame given that side windows have shattered. The tractor will likely have come off even worse.

I hope the injuries aren't life changing.

BTP statement:

Shortly after 12.30pm today Sunday, 10 April 2016 a train collided with a tractor at Hockham Road level crossing, Roudham in Norfolk.

Two men, the train driver and the driver of the tractor, have been taken to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital for treatment. The driver of the tractor has sustained serious, although not life-threatening, injuries. The train driver's injuries are not thought to be serious.

The train - which remained on the tracks - was the 12.03 service between Norwich and Cambridge and had 135 passengers on board.

Three other passengers have been treated at the scene by paramedics. Their injuries are not thought to be serious.

A joint British Transport Police and Rail Accident Investigation Branch investigation is now underway.

Looking at the pictures it was on a small gated crossing - depends how long it took to stop. Curved line with trees down one side. Don't know what the speed limit is around there though.

AFAIK. much of the Brecks line is subject to a 75 mph limit, though whether that applies to this section or not I don't know. Very sad to hear of this accident, and I trust that the train driver will be assisted to recover his or her confidence after what must have been a frightening impact.

I don't think I've seen cab damage quite that bad to a Turbostar for some time. It looks like bits of tractor have been flung up and over the second man's side, doesn't it? Also, is it just me or is the whole cab door on the driver's side missing? :o Thoughts with all injured... impact with farm vehicles and suchlike is something I fairly regularly discuss with drivers of such units on rural routes in other areas of the country, and I think this demonstrates how big a risk it can be.

Defiantly does look like the cab door is missing, my condolences go out to all those who are injured.

I believe the line speed there is 75/SP90 (2009 SA).
So the 170 could potentially be doing 90mph.
The route is fitted with new modular signalling, but this might have no bearing on the incident.
Good that there were not more injuries on what seems to have been a well-loaded train.

It may be that debris has been thrown up and broken the side windows further down the train. If the frames are twisted the vehicle is probably a write-off, but even if it isn't that amount of cab damage looks like several months out of service.

My thoughts too for those involved - this could easily have been fatal.

An similar incident happened not long ago with Chiltern except that time with a tree not a tractor, that unit seemed to spent a fair while out of service. And that damage is not as serious as the one today.

According to local gen sources (Anglia-Gen Yahoo group) it was 170204 that was involved. Thoughts to all involved in this

Although it is that Level Crossing, the risk assessment data and description is for the footpath element. There is a separate risk assessment for the vehicular element, and technically that is a separate LC. It has Miniature Stop lights; in the picture you can see the back of the pedestal for vehicles travelling towards the camera.

Thanks for that ... takes care of my query immediately above your post

Given how stretched Crown Point's diesel fleet is at the best of times, having a three car unit out of action is going to hurt a lot.

Thoughts with everyone involved. It is very rare these accidents happen on our railways, but it is a reminder not to take that for granted. Don't want to speculate on anything but it is amazing that the injuries of the people on board are not as serious as they otherwise could have been.

ITV anglia have pictures from the scene and a video report from on the site here:
http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/story/2016-04-10/train-carrying-135-passengers-crashes-at-level-crossing/

The Tractor, as could be expected, looks to be in a particularly bad state.

The ITV video pointedly has a shot of the crossing telephone. I'd imagine that'll be a fairly easy thing to check if it was used?

Looks like that's what happened. I got thrown by the interior panelling looking like it had detached from its fittings. The photos in the link provided by westcoaster clear that one up nicely.
