Incident in Swinton

So... Coming out of Swinton Station I went past 2 x Ticket Inspectors as I wasn't paying attention as I was on my phone and had headphones in, then noticed Id walked past them, and immediately laughed at the absurdity of it. Started walking towards my car and noticed one was taking a photo of it.

So I approached them, and questioned if that's what they were doing. Told them I Indeed had a ticket, that was subsequently scanned, only to be told I'd broken a bylaw. I was getting Hella frustrated at this point, but argued with them without swearing.

I eventually walked off after having repeated in a rather stern voice 'don't take pics of peoples cars' as I had my 5 year old waiting for me with my wife.

Have I done something that would result in a fine or request for more? I assume they can get my address from my card?

I was loud, but I didn't swear and did not threaten them.

So you walked past the inspectors and then they, presumably, went past you to take a photo of your car. Are you sure that they were taking a photo of your car? Did they not move in front of you and try to gain your attention (without touching you) first?

If your five year-old was in the care of your wife, that is unlikely to be a factor either way.

There is nothing to stop anyone taking a photo of your car.

What ticket did you have, and was the scan successful? If you presented a valid ticket, then I doubt any more will come of it.

I had a valid ticket. I'd paid for it at 8:36 for my train at 8:40, getting an Anytime Return for that day. Itd been scanned throughout the day when moving between stations.

Does it matter that I thought it was absurd? I've had people physically restrain / try to stop passengers before. It was to me absurd they'd just let me go with no attempt. Especially as I couldn't hear them.

As you showed a valid ticket, I would think nothing more of this.

How did you notice them after you’d walked past them?

The area concerned is covered by CCTV so it will be possible to see what happened.

You did break a byelaw if they asked you for a ticket and you didn't present it.

It's not in general illegal to take photos in a public place. (A public place is any place to which the public have access either freely or upon payment, which includes a station car park.)

They can get the details from your ticket if they scanned it, basked on the name and address you entered upon purchase or registering your account.

However, I agree with others that if you had a valid ticket and it was eventually checked, you will not hear any more about the matter.
