Due to a fatality all lines are currently blocked with nothing moving in or out of Euston. Southern services are terminating at Shepherds Bush. London Midland are sourcing road transport to transfer passengers between Northampton and Wellingborough.

This is terrible for all concerned sympathy to all involved.
This is a coincidence as there was talk on another thread about using the Marston Vale line in times of disruption. I notice London Midland are organising ROAD transport between Luton and Milton Keynes. Obviously they feel that Marston Vale is not a viable option.

To further complicate things, a guy next to me at the front of the train who was suffering from claustrophobia, eventually reached his limit, pulled the emergency door lever and has legged it over the tracks towards North Wembley. Unbelievable Jeff!

Once again, Virgin have suspended all trains from Manchester. Is there really no way of turning trains round at Rugby or Milton Keynes anymore?

Was on 1W22 which got caped at Northampton because of this. Fortunately that's where I was going anyway, so it didn't cause me any inconvenience. It was quite odd seeing the whole train empty there, though. I was surprised they didn't turn trains back at Milton Keynes instead of Northampton though.

Needless to say, it's terrible for all involved, and my prayers are with them.

The 319s on the 1834 have presided over the first LM departure from Euston. Bit busy. Hello to anyone else on board. A few people who have evidently not used them before were very complimentary about the ex Brighton Express Chapman seated set.

SN were cancelling WCML services rather than turning short.

Not an awful lot you can do with the passengers when they get there. And makes re-starting the service after disruption trickier.

Road transport from Luton is considerably faster, connecting into the most frequently served MML station. And more likely to cope with passengers than the one and a half carriages per hour on the Vale.

At least London Midland's twitter team don't have to deal with any more of the disruption from this as they've gone home for the day.

Well that's helpful, I assumed all TOC's had their twitter account staffed throughout operating hours but obviously not!

They should just hand the franchise over now. They’ve basically thrown in the towel at Euston.

Can’t they turn trains at WFJ? The Overground is fine. Meanwhile, 1 LM train has left in the past 45 mins..

Glad I got on then! The 1834 is an easy one to do as the stock (319s) and crew don’t come in off other trains with quite such tight timing.

Just left Watford about 20 down.

But surely by the time a train from Manchester gets to Harrow & Wealdstone the disruption will almost certainly have cleared?

All down trains having to run on the down slow at the moment to cross over at Bourne End - now were there not crossovers at just north of Watford Jn station at one time? :|

So they send off a 4-car service to Tring, stopping everywhere after Watford
And leave 2x8-car and 1x12-car on the platforms doing nothing? That doesn’t make much sense to passengers

They will run as many services as they can using the sets that are there, that’s how they did it last Wednesday when there was a similar level of disruption.

Maybe, but not much use if the stock and /or crew to form the southbound service from Manchester is still in London.

And now we can’t use the fast lines north of Watford! More delay. Hardly joined up thinking ...

I was caught up in this and I while I understand it was a bad one things were very confused. I missed the 1641 at Mk by seconds and then didnt move until the 1713 Southern train left at 1813. I am not sure what was moving after that as LM seemed to be stopping at Northampton while the line was cleared.

At least most of the trains were held in stations this time.

I understand it was a bad one today but communication and local decision making needs to be better.

This is terrible for all concerned sympathy to all involved.

not tonight it wasn't an option due to a points failure - the 1722 arrival from Bedford arrived at 1833 with the 1822 arrival uop its trumpet!

the 1736 (train 1) was then cancelled with the 1830 service leaving late. The only train that arrived in that period from the north was my 1813

Once again, Virgin have suspended all trains from Manchester. Is there really no way of turning trains round at Rugby or Milton Keynes anymore?

not with all 6 platforms at MK full! Not with all of the evening freights ( and several light locos) blocking the line. Also what do you do with all the passengers who de train at MK? Where are they going? How are thye getting there. MK was a total zoo in anty event with all of the evening commuters milling about

They should just hand the franchise over now. They’ve basically thrown in the towel at Euston.

Cough - Watford North - Cough

BTW - from where should they rustle up trains to move people from Euston with a full line block and half the fleet stood at Northampton. I cant wait for Tardis Rail to take over the franchise.

But surely by the time a train from Manchester gets to Harrow & Wealdstone the disruption will almost certainly have cleared?

want to bet?

Fast lines now open - the down fast could not be used for a while as they has to reverse the set that was involved in the fatality (1S82) at Bourne End

I seem to have come through this better than most. Quite a lot of the WCML is turn-up-and-go nowadays, rather than heading for a timetabled service, I got back to Birmingham International about 1740 to find a substantially delayed service in the platform; we set of with announcements about the situation, stopped on the Rugby flyover for about 10 minutes, then ran on to MK, where after we had sat there for a few minutes, and a service alongside had departed, it was announced as Caped. So a substantial trainload up over the bridge where several hundred were being held top of stairs. However the lift was still working, strangely, so passed them all down to the platform, where a Voyager, fortunately a double set, was running in from Chester about an hour down. On we went, fast line all the way, very little coming out of London and stations seemed deserted, although I noticed gross congestion on the roads in Watford, which happens at such times. Only remaining delay was at Camden, waiting for a platform, although many of them were empty. Arrived about 1945. Worst crush of all was trying to get onto the escalator down to the Tube.

Any idea why the 19:10 Euston to Holyhead is running as a 10 car double Voyager but with only a single unit (5 cars) in use? VTWC don't, to my knowledge, require a guard in each unit - I have travelled on double Voyagers with a guard in only one unit. The 19:10 - the first off-peak VTWC train to Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Stafford, Crewe and Chester - can't be pleasant this evening. It is busy enough at the best of times.

Any idea what happened to 1S82? Still at Watford? Also where would it go after these kinds of incidents, to the depot and would they be in use the next day?

Got to Coventry for the 1731 Euston and decided instead to take the 1725 CrossCountry to Reading and the 1857 to Paddington. Only an hour late getting home in the end!

Surely, that statement is not correct. All mainline services may well have been suspended, but I'm pretty sure the DC services to and from Watford Junction were still running.

In a wonderful piece of lack of consideration on someone's part (be that control or the guard), the 2001 Bletchley-Bedford departed on time. Just before the doors from the first train from Euston for a couple of hours opened at Bletchley, so anyone wanting Marston Vale local stations had to wait an hour.

Holding it for 2-3 minutes would have done, and often is.

Indeed they were, though not calling at Harrow. I think the 1834 LM may well have been the first train to call there since the incident.

Apparently LU were non-stopping Euston and were telling people it was closed outright, which was neither truthful (at 1800ish when it was allegedly happening) nor useful. I assume this was due to Tube platform overcrowding, but misinformation wasn't necessary.
