Incident at Datchet

Reports of car crashing through barriers at Datchet level crossing and hitting empty coching stock on its way to Windsor.

No trains between Windsor and Staines currently.

Police say woman, 67, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after car goes through level crossing barriers and collides with a train.

British Transport Police said the 67-year-old woman went through a level crossing barrier at Datchet, Berkshire, at 06:05 BST.

Her Volkswagen Golf collided with a train travelling from Clapham to Windsor and Eton Riverside station, where it was due to come into service.

A police spokesman said the woman was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is in custody.

The train's driver and guard were not hurt. Passengers are facing delays because of the incident.

South West Trains' services are unable to run between Windsor and Eton Riverside and London Waterloo.

Buses have replaced trains and the disruption is expected to last until at least 12:00 BST.

British Transport Police said the incident would be the subject of a Rail Accident Investigation Branch inquiry.

Glad to hear that nobody was injured, I hope the guard and driver of the train involved are given suitable care. I could only imagine how shaken up the driver of the train must have been.

I'm sure a strong cup of tea and they'll both be fine, nobody was hurt and that's the main thing

Apparently the driver saw her coming from some way back, and stuck the anchors on, but couldn't stop before the crossing. Hats off for observation and effort though.

it doesnt take a genius to work out what would have happened if she got there a second before the train did!
