Inadequate Class 700 first class demarcation

I got a check on my first 700 journey, but had actually bought a first class ticket (stupidly as I was actually in the declassified section at the time. Notably at the front back then!).

I jumped on a 700 at Brighton a few weeks ago and sat in the rear section. As the train filled up a couple of "rail neighbourhood officers" got on and asked to see my ticket. As I only had my standard season I was told to move, an instruction I complied with (the PIS wasn't working and I didn't fancy an argument).

As we left Haywards Heath the PIS comes on and sure enough the rearmost section was declassified. I was a couple of carriages away then but could just make out the difference between that and the CCTV notice. I couldn't be bothered to go back there to avail myself of the tables.

I believe the officers disembarked before we left Brighton. I doubt that all staff are aware of the declassification.

When they said everyone was aware and even said not to worry on Twitter (when I raised the very same concerns), I was sure even then that some staff wouldn't know. Or some staff will make up their own interpretations, like when the PIS is off then everything returns to being first class or something.

I mean, we're talking about the same company that has staff apparently refusing travel on Gatwick Express with a 'not via HS1' ticket, because HS means High-speed and Gatwick Express is an express, therefore high-speed train.
