I (like many thousands of others I'm sure) was planning on travelling by train next Sunday from North of London (I'm in Leicestershire) to the Cenotaph Parade in London but, despite looking at a variety of options, I can't find anything that would get me into London by or around 0800.

Is this normal for a Sunday, and/or is it just the decision to seemingly arrange engineering works on multiple lines that's the cause?

That's fairly typical I'm afraid. Services start later on Sunday so it can be tricky to make long distance journey (and plenty of short distance journeys!) that require arriving somewhere early.

@nottsnurse. Could you railhead from Bedford? Earlier arrivals into Central London if starting from there (Bedford) on a Sunday.

There's a National Express leaving Nottingham at 04:50 and getting to Victoria at 07:50, or leaving Leicester at 03:55 or 05:30 (arriving at 06:50 or 08:05) if you're willing to go by coach and leave that early.

@nottsnurse. There's Southbound departures from Bedford at 0558, 0623 and 0653. Get you into St. Pancras for 0715, 0741 and 0811, respectively. A Super Off Peak Zones 1-6 Day Travelcard should be £32.10. A Super Off Peak Day Return is cheaper at £21.90 but if you do get that, you'll still have to get across from St. Pancras to wherever you're meeting in London for the parade (= Westminster / Embankment?) Can't see any Thameslink trains running across the middle of London until (at or around) 0924.
