I can't say for certain with Northern obviously but the chances are they don't actually login to twitter like me and you would at home. They probably use some kind of web portal, an internal system for large companies or just a third party application for smaller users. That way Northern for example could allow and track all staff using internal logins not the actual twitter login. It would be very rare and bad practise for a large business to be using Twitter with no middle man. Hope that explanation makes some kind of sense.
I've worked for digital agencies and have had logins for various types of systems which allowed me to login from any Internet connected computer with usually a login record usually being made. On one occasion I didn't have chance to check what a junior had done before leaving the office but was able to check from home later on and realised he'd made a serious mistake - for a North America based client he'd scheduled two campaigns using UK time instead of EST. I was able to correct that without it needing someone to go back in to the office to change. On one occasion that same client didn't have anyone in their head office due to heavy snow but that didn't affect how their business operated as they could access the systems they needed remotely.
