I bought a wrong ticket on the DB Navigator app recently. (They had applied a Bahncard discount, although my card has expired). I decided to cut my losses and apply for a refund, and was pleased to find that they'd give me a full refund if claimed within 3 hours of purchase, even though the ticket was in the very restricted Super Sparpreis category.

That jogged my memory of reading on here that some, if not all, GB online retailers will do something similar. Is that the case and is there a universal rule or practice?

There's no universal rule, but the process is called a "same-day void".

I seem to remember Trainline doing this for the first 15 minutes or so after purchase, but TrainSplit offer it for the first hour. I'm not sure about other retailers, though.

Thanks. Another reason to use Trainsplit (and the Forum's site too, I guess)

Up to 2 hours in other cases - I believe that's what LNER offer.

Yes, I've used the LNER version, and it was refunded without quibble.

In my case it was a fat-finger error on my part, which I noticed as soon as I got the confirmation email.

I just had to do that when Trainsplit failed to offer me a Boundary Zone fare despite that I entered my Travelcard into the search box - I assumed that a Boundary Zone 2 fare would be offered but it offered me a London Terminals fare, where a Boundary Zone fare was available for that leg.
