Not a 122 or 124, this class is older than both, and older than the 4LAV which was a 1930s class.

One class member was withdrawn from departmental use a few months short of the 50th anniversary of it's introduction, all the remaining class members were withdrawn and scrapped 10-15 years prior to this.

Although built with a particular route in mind, the class only served on this route for the first 20 or so years of their lives.

Right.... errr.... mutter mutter... not an EMU... not steam... at the latest early 1930s... specific route... none left.... mutter mutter... departmental... looks up combined volumes from 1973, 1968 and 1963.... PASS!

As this seems to have left everyone stumped I'll give you that.

Its the North Eastern Railway EF1 class, which were built to haul freight trains on the electrified Shildon-Newport line.
