Correct, it is a 309.

The livery in question isn't Jaffa Cake though (which was also worn be a few 3rd rail slammers) but BR Maroon, as applied to most LHCS in the late 50s/early 60s but not seen on any other class of EMU.

The 309 was also the first EMU designed to travel at 100mph and the first 25kv AC EMU to be equipped with gangway connections between units.

Let's see then...

A well-known but not particularly numerous unit that was notable for many features that were unusual at the time it was built, it has very rarely been seen away from a certain part of the country, running into one specific major city. It holds a notable position in world railway records that in the grand scheme of things is actually very minor and ultimately decisively overshadowed by similar feats. A cascade involving at least some of this class saw it displaced by a more modern unit of identical carriage length and formation, but it in turn also displaced a fairly modern unit. Today, it shares much of its "donkey work" with one of Britain's most common classes.
