I'm the first to use what was then an experimental kind of drive that is still used in most trains today, and is used on the most powerful TOPS registered peice of rolling stock formed of a single pair of bogies.

This multiple unit was once a common sight in a certain area, but not exactly well-known among the less aware elsewhere in the country. It was among the first to boast a feature that we are very used to, although its use is not as common now as it was 20 years ago, and has at least one class which is similar to it. It operated exclusively on commuter routes, at least one of which was threatened by our old friend Dr Beeching, although it also had regular sojourns to the seaside. The unit that now runs in its place has a TOPS number that is very similar to the original.

BP was the first 'unit' on Britain's railways to have air-con....

Once a common sight in a certain area & on commuter routes; SW London and now on Merseyside; among the first to boast a feature; er, sliding doors? class similar to it; 507; trips to the seaside: Southport. The stock that replaced it is 455/8, which is slightly similar. (Yes I know, sorry.)

Class 502?

Very good. Among the first units to have air-powered doors; the 502 ran exclusively around Liverpool but took in Southport (which Beeching threatened). It was replaced by the 507 and 508. (Which also means that Schnellzug had the right idea but was one era - and 90 minutes - late.)
